Custom Wood Ramps
There are so many different options available when it comes to building a ramp. In some cases we prefer to use wood to build a ramp. If you have a situation where you are unable to use a straight ramp and require a large landing area, a wood option may work better. You have an option of installing a straight folding ramp or modular ramp with a platform if you wanted to turn to the side. We give the home owner their options and we end up building a composite deck (aprox 13 x18ft) with an 8ft ramp off to the side. This way if the person using the wheelchair wanted to come out for a breath of fresh air there would be no slope to worry about. The deck also adds to the value of the home and gives it a cozy feeling.

Modular Ramps
For mobility needs beyond the range of a portable ramp, Modular Ramps are durable and long lasting - a great solution for long-term home access. Modular ramps are quick to assemble and can be setup for almost any site. Their efficient design uses less hardware and no pre-assembly is required.
ADA Compliant Ramps
The US Congress created guidelines for accessibility of public facilities through the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1991. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramp guidelines apply only to access for new facilities or major renovations built after 1991 that are used by the general public, which includes government offices, polling places, office buildings, apartment buildings, restaurants and stores. They do not apply to private residences.
Med Mart uses the ADA guidelines. We will work with you to provide reasonable accommodation for your project in compliance with the ADA guidelines.
Threshold
Pretty much every exterior doorway in a residential setting will have a threshold of some sort which a wheelchair user will have to overcome to propel their wheelchair into or out of a building. To make entering and exiting of the wheelchair over thresholds safer and easier, threshold ramps are available in a variety of sizes. Although usually used on the outside of the doorway, I have seen cases where the interior of the doorway also requires a small threshold ramp.
The maximum threshold height for an exterior sliding door should be no more than an inch and three quarters and half an inch for other types of doors without modification. Beveled edges with a slope no greater than 1:2 are required for thresholds above these specifications, for raised thresholds and for changes in floor levels in public areas.
Portable
Portable wheelchair access ramps are the most versatile of all wheelchair ramps. They come in several designs and many sizes. Portable ramps offer many advantages over permanent ramps, not the least of which is lower cost. Portable wheelchair ramps are great for people who are out in the community on a regular basis as they can be used as needed with little exertion by a care giver or attendant. The portable ramp can be used to access a van then loaded in the van, transported with the user to a new location and used to exit the van. At the destination the same ramp may be suitable to access a building or elevated area which otherwise may be inaccessible. That said, a person who is confined to a wheelchair will find it difficult but not impossible to carry and set up a portable ramp.
