We want to take a moment to thank all of the healthcare workers who are constantly working hard to keep us safe. 2020 showed us all how dedicated our healthcare workers are to their mission, and we hope to return the favor by shedding some light on the working conditions that many workers in hospitals and assisted living facilities face today.

What a year 2020 has been. COVID-19 continues to change every American’s day-to-day life, and, even with the promise of new vaccines, we have a long way to go. This country has endured so much this year – from tens of millions of Americans out of work for the first time to a turbulent election cycle that dominated our news outlets for months.  

The holidays are a time for friends and family. Many people are having to make tough decisions about their holiday plans this year in order to keep their family safe, including cancelling family gatherings all together. We understand that this is not an easy decision, and we hope that you and your family are able to find a way to celebrate safely.

Did you know that November is Caregiver Appreciation Month? Over 50 million Americans are caregivers, and we want to say thank you! So many people are safer, healthier, and more comfortable because of the hard work of caregivers. The services they provide amounts to a value of around $375 billion a year, even though the majority of caregivers help care for their loved ones for free. Close to 90% of caregivers care for a relative, and according to AARP the Millennial, Gen X, and Baby Boomer generations make up roughly equal parts of the caregiver population. It’s a physically and emotionally challenging job, so it’s important to take the time to support the caregivers in your life. 

Did you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month? You may have noticed the pink ribbons and have already had conversations with your loved ones about the disease. If you haven’t, don’t worry! It’s never too late to increase awareness and better your understanding of breast cancer. The Med Mart team is here to contribute some information and advice on the topic, as well as share a few ways to support patients and survivors.

As you may have noticed, our website has recently undergone a major facelift. The team at Med Mart is excited to share our new site with our customers, and we wanted to tell you about why we’ve made some of our biggest design changes. One of the things we’re most excited about is that we have taken the initiative to make our website ADA compliant. The new Med Mart website is scanned every day to ensure we meet the standards of ADA compliance so that everyone can enjoy the same great shopping experience. Our content is now accessible to blind users, deaf users, and those who must navigate by screen readers or other assistive technologies.

Did you know that September is National Cholesterol Education Month? Having high levels of cholesterol in your body can lead to serious health problems, so understanding the basics of what cholesterol is and how you can control your cholesterol levels is extremely important. According to the CDC, “More than 102 million American Adults (20 years or older) have total cholesterol levels at or above 200 mg/dL, which is above healthy levels.” High cholesterol levels lead to a significantly higher risk of contracting heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in the country. Last week the UK opened its first socially distanced outdoor venue. The Virgin Money Unity Arena seated its 2,500 patrons on 500 elevated viewing platforms, arranged at a safe distance from each other. Guests were asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing guidelines as they moved to and from their designated platform. This venue is the first of its kind, but we expect to see similar event spaces pop up around the world as the industry tries to navigate a socially distanced future.
